Tennis Player Green

“Tennis Player Green” (2023) is a tremendous display of Jorge Blanco’s vision. From a young age he was inspired by sports in his native country and later during his studies in Europe, and he sought to capture the incredible twists and turns of the human body in that desperate moment when blocking a goal, or hitting a home run, or making a hail mary lunge to stop a lob. This piece is an exquisite example of the latter, with impossibly-long legs defying physics to help the moon-faced player reach the incoming ball in time. Green, a color associated with success which combines the calm strength of blue with the abundant energy of yellow, is an exquisite choice for this dynamic piece, as the leaping sculpture keeps his eye on the ball.
