Dancing

“Dancing” (2021) continues Jorge Blanco’s mesmerizing use of movement that is the highlight of his body of work. His moon-faced figure, with arms and legs flung out in the heat of the dance, is created with several strategically placed curved lines, and the implied circle formed from the blue limbs against the two subtly different green backgrounds carries it through. The negative space of the eye and the isolated blue segment are also clever insertions of Blanco’s, and perhaps most spectacular is the red circle just off center, suggesting a fiery heart that burns from the energy and passion of dancing, and is the focal point around which the whole picture pivots.
