“Tomato II” (2014) continues Jorge Blanco’s lifelong fascination with half-circles, this time combining many sizes and positions to suggest a plant, rather than a man. His remarkable ability to see a simple object and imbue it with whimsy and depth through abstract representation is unparalleled. With one single solid panel, punctuated by small dots to imply seeds, the sculpture is capped with sharp triangular greenery to suggest the sepal. The implied space creates a rounded, ripe, lovingly-rendered fruit that would brighten any room, especially the kitchen!
