Rhythm

“Rhythm” (2005) is a site-specific piece that was crafted by Jorge Blanco for the former mayor of Sarasota, David Cohen. When Blanco emigrated to the United States he immediately felt at home in the Jewel of Florida’s Suncoast, a city which has embraced the sculptor with numerous large-scale installations of his throughout the arts district. Blanco’s signature mixture of sharp lines, crisp curves, and dots to create open space are all present, with the holes in this piece suggesting rhythm as well, a different number of them on each protrusion. This fusion of art and music in stark white would make a fine addition to any home, and represents an exciting chapter in the artist’s life.
