“Eclipse” (2011) showcases the darker side of Jorge Blanco’s imagination. The stark black color creates a shine over the smooth surface, drawing your eye to every tiny detail. One of the most striking aspects is the single eye, a common feature of Blanco’s work, this time obscured by the darkness of the structure behind it, creating a mesmerizing effect. Blanco’s cheerful approach to life comes through even in this work, as the spaces between the pieces, the horn-like triangles above, and the bright gleam of the bolts in it bring to mind a creature, crouched in the darkness, waiting for the light to return. There is no sense of malice, only a surety that the moon shall wax and wane as long as the earth shall spin.
